Today, I’m doing an eight-step pictorial featuring NARS Cordura eyeshadow duo and some other recent makeup goodies in collaboration with a few other bloggers. We each created a look revolving around the zodiac signs. Naturally, I chose earth tones. I go through each step to achieve the “earth” look below, so get your neutral makeup out and let’s do this!
Buff your favorite foundation all over your face for an even canvas. My every day foundation is Urban Decay Naked Skin. Today, I used shade #06 with the Real Techniques Buffing Brush.
I like to fill in my brows before I do my eye makeup occasionally. It helps to better see where to apply darker eyeshadow shades. I used IT Cosmetics Brow Power in Universal Taupe. I’ve really been loving this lately more than any other brow pencil I’ve tried because it has amazing staying power.
I primed my eyes using NARS Smudgeproof Eyeshadow Base and then took the bronze shade in the NARS Cordura duo and packed it on my lid using the MAC #239 brush. I then took a fluffy blending brush (MAC #224) and buffed the dark brown shade into the crease, blending together the bronze shade with the brown.
Always the most stressful part of makeup application – eyeliner. I used my Stila liquid liner to line my upper lash line and slightly wing it out. Use a makeup wipe to clean up your wing if you need to even them out and sharpen them up.
I have oily/combo skin, so setting my foundation is a must if I expect it to last all day and not slide off. I like to apply powder after I’ve allowed my foundation to ‘settle’ while I do my eye makeup. Lightly dust Laura Mercier’s Translucent Loose Setting Powder all over the face with Real Techniques Multi-task Brush. Follow up with some TooFaced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer on the cheeks, forehead, nose and chin with an angled blush brush. Apply MAC’s Melba on cheeks with a small blush brush – blending up higher towards the temples (less on the apples of the cheeks). Finish up with a bit of Hourglass Luminous Light highlighter on the cheekbones, tip of the nose and upper lip.
I used NARS Cordura on my lower lash line in lieu of liner. First, I smudged the bronze shade with the same MAC #239 brush from earlier along the entire length of my lash line. I used the dark brown shade on the outer half.
I’m excited to use my newest Charlotte Tilbury lip products in this pictorial! I first lined my lips with Charlotte Tilbury’s Iconic Nude lip liner and then applied Nude Kate lipstick (full review on both of these here). For added shine, I applied a little Marc Jacobs gloss in Pretty Thing (a nude peach).
To finish off the look, a nice coating of black mascara on both top and bottom lashes from L’Oreal Miss Manga ROCK gets the job done. I use waterproof because the Houston humidity doesn’t end in December and my lashes tend to hit my upper lid and smudge.
I love this look because it’s neutral enough to wear during the day, but also is glamorous enough to wear at night. I would probably add some black liner to the lower lash line and put a little more of the dark brown shadow on the upper lid for added drama, but that’s just me :).
What’s your zodiac sign? Do you feel like it describes your personality accurately? I’m a Cancer, but I’m on the cusp of Leo, so I definitely feel like I relate to the sensitive homebody of Cancer, but also like to be outgoing and friendly like Leo.
Happy signing,
-Steffanie
