*NEW* Boxycharm December 2017 Review

*Affiliate links used. Full disclaimer details here.
It’s been a minute since I did a subscription box review! Last time was when I reviewed the Allure Beauty Box and the final review went up back in Dec. 2016. When I do box reviews, I do them in three-month increments – meaning, I’ll review the box for three months. At the end, I’ll do a final evaluation on if I think it’s a worthwhile subscription. Today, we’re starting the series with the Boxycharm December 2017 review. Boxycharm is a $21/month beauty box that includes five FULL-SIZE products. Let’s delve into the details…

about boxycharm

As mentioned, Boxycharm is a subscription beauty box that includes 4-5 (most of the time, it’s 5 from what I have seen) full-size beauty products.

It costs $21 a month, but if you prepay 3, 6 or 12 months at once, you get a bit off. I opted for the 3-month plan for now and ended up paying ~19/month per box, $59 charged upfront.

If you refer friends to Boxycharm, you earn CHARMS. CHARMS end up added up to cash off special beauty items also  called CHARMS through the Boxycharm site. Example CHARMS include makeup bags, tools, etc. So far, it hasn’t seemed anything special to me yet but maybe it’s because I don’t have any CHARMS yet!

If you’re interested in learning more or signing up for Boxycharm, you can use my referral link here which will help me earn some CHARMS! Then I can let you all know how it goes.

Something Boxycharm does that I really enjoy (Type A over here) is they always drop sneak peeks on their Twitter and Instagram about what some of their stand out items will be in upcoming boxes, so I knew the Tarte mascara was coming.

The mascara alone more than paid for the box, and although I do not see it as a volumizing mascara, it does do an excellent job of lengthening. It does not smudge or flake, either.

The blush kit is ok. It’s as described – natural looking (AKA not a lot of pigment, as many ‘baked/domed’ blushes tend to be). I don’t really like any of the shades worn alone, so I tended to just mix all three for a better shade on my skin tone.

The blush brush is not at all my preferred method for blush, but it works really nice as a foundation brush. The handle feels kind of cheap, though, compared to other Crown brushes I own (and have owned in the past).

Pretty Vulgar’s Liquid Lipstick is nice! It’s not a matte/dry down flat lipstick… but a creamy melted lipstick. I haven’t had a chance to wear this too many times yet but plan on wearing it in a YouTube video or tutorial soon.

The biggest fail is the beaute basics bronze essentials. This literally looked like dollar store makeup to me and from what I saw online, everyone thought this was a bust. Quite literally, many subscriber’s bronzer was totally busted upon arrival. Luckily, mine was intact but it is just such an orangey, powdery, shimmery bronzer that it made me look almost jaundice. No thanks. ESPECIALLY for that price tag. Exsqueeze me…

value analysis

With other boxes, I would break down the value of the sample size and give you a calculation of the value of the box. With Boxycharm, it’s super easy because you’re getting full-size products.

Obviously, this box more than pays for itself at a true value of over $130.

However, if I were to price these products out in my dream world, I’d say that the value is more:

TOTAL “STEFFANIE” PRICE: $65.50

Still not a bad value for $21/month.

I already saw three of the sneak peeks for this month on Boxycharm’s Instagram (a Crown 9-shade eyeshadow palette, a Dr Brandt luminizing primer, and the IT Cosmetics Brow Pencil), so I’m REALLY pumped to see how they perform and what the final item(s) are.

Again, if you’re interested in signing up for Boxycharm, I’d love it if you used my referral link so I can figure out the hype about these CHARMS. If not, you can just sign up on your own at boxycharm.com. …Or you can wait until my upcoming reviews to see if it’s really worth it over the longer term. 🙂
