RMS Beauty Un-Cover Up Foundation Review

No nonsense… most clean beauty foundations basically feel like oil with a little dirt mixed in. It’s one of those clean beauty categories I’m finding to be pretty difficult to find really good coverage compatible with oily skin types. But RMS Beauty recently released their first foundation and it definitely checks off at least ONE of those areas (really good coverage)! Let’s get into my thoughts in my RMS Beaty Un-Cover Up Foundation review and if this formula is right for you…

a bit about RMS beauty

I can’t say it much better than Rose-Marie, RMS founder, says it in terms of why she created RMS Beauty…

After many years in the fashion and make-up industry, I’ve learned a lot about the impact of daily exposure to chemicals in beauty care products. I’ve seen what works and what doesn’t live up to its promises. I see the results of taking a quick-fix approach to looking good. I know first-hand the price our health can pay in the pursuit of beauty. I realized that what women need is a cosmetics line that is as pure as possible, one that creates a solid foundation for anti-aging and long-term beauty. -Rose Marie, RMS Beauty Founder

Rose Marie is a well known professional makeup artist who has worked for Vogue, Allure, Harper’s Bazaar, Glamour and more. She’s worked on campaigns for Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, Louis Vuitton, Thierry Mugler, and Victoria’s Secret. She’s no newbie to the beauty industry and the ‘ugly’ truth of the cosmetics industry.

Several years ago, Rose-Marie began to experience some severe health issues. In her healing process and intense research, she discovered that some of the toxic chemicals and heavy metals in her system were also found in today’s beauty products we use daily. After rebuilding her own health, Rose-Marie realized she wanted to help other women claim their right to healthy, clean beauty and created the first of its kind, truly organic color cosmetic line, RMS Beauty. –rmsbeauty.com

rms un-cover up foundation

In my quest to try MORE than just Beautycounter’s clean beauty products, I was lead to RMS Beauty’s Un-cover Up Foundation ($52/1 oz) after watching so many clean beauty YouTubers share their thoughts on it.

I do consider myself a foundation expert at this point, and someone who is a very harsh critic of every aspect of a foundation – tones, texture, performance, etc. I needed to try it.

Now, I will say I already own the RMS Beauty Un-Cover Up concealer (I use shade 33 in both concealer and foundation). It’s not my favorite for under eyes but it’s very nice for covering blemishes and discoloration on the skin. For under eyes, I find it a bit too heavy and it’ll cake in fine lines you didn’t know you even had if you have a lot of darkness to conceal (which I do).

So, the cool/interesting thing about many of RMS’s formulas is they are not liquid – they’re this cold-centrifuged coconut oil base which keeps the product in a more natural state. The Un-Cover Up foundation is in a jar and a thick, cream formula that you dispense with a spatula on the back of your hand.

The foundation is available in 16 shades in a very wide array of colors from lightest alabaster to deep espresso. I wear shade 33 (warm beige).

Un Cover Up Foundation is thick, fuller coverage in a nourishing, hydrating formula. I do not think this formula would wear very long on oily skin types, but it photographs beautifully if you only need to wear it for a few hours.

If you have normal to dry skin, you’ll love this formula if you’ve been disappointed in the coverage levels of other clean beauty foundations.

I personally enjoy this formula for the most part, except where I get the most oily around the nose (there, you must apply with the lightest hand). You need SUCH a little bit of this foundation; it will last me years upon years.

You’ll get the most natural finish applying this onto the back of your hand, then blend into the skin with your fingers – less is definitely more! If you want fuller coverage, use a dense foundation brush and pat/pack into the skin where extra coverage is needed.

If you have normal to dry skin, this foundation will wear beautifully all day long and make your skin look healthy, luminous and flawless.

If you have oily skin, you may need to keep a powder compact handy to soak up any shine that will come through if that bothers you.. but it won’t just disappear.

overall thoughts

I love having this clean foundation in my collection for it’s added coverage benefits compared to my daily go-to from Beautycounter (Tint Skin).

This foundation is best suited for those with normal to dry skin – in my opinion – but if you don’t mind a more luminous finish and touching up oily spots throughout the day, normal to oily skin can also use it.

The skin-nourishing ingredients that actually improve your skin texture over time are also an added bonus and make me feel happy to wear this makeup knowing it’s not causing damage to my system.

The formula is also non-GMO, non-nano, soy free, gluten free, and cruelty-free. It’s sold at Sephora, Credo Beauty, Nordstrom and rmsbeauty.com.
