Since I haven’t shared beauty favorites since February, I looked at my stash and realized it was probably time to chat about some of my go-to, must-have products in the daily rotation. These five items are serious summer loves and I’m leaning towards some of them making Holy Grail status! From hair care to face makeup and lip products, let’s dive into my May 2017 beauty favorites…
I’ve used or reviewed quite a few of these already on the blog (like the foundation, palette, and highlighter) but a couple of these are completely new mentions.
I’ve discovered the ULTIMATE combination for keeping naturally brunette hair the perfect ash blonde and I wish I could scream from the rooftops about it – but for now, the blog is the best place. This sh$t will legitimately stain your shower if you don’t rinse well. And if you use white towels, those will be stained, too. Don’t worry, it washes out in the washing machine but gone are the days you sit for ten minutes with watered down ‘purple’ shampoo and conditioner.
This Joico shampoo is potently purple and the Kenra masque is actually more a deep, rich blue tone. Which, in color theory world, produces more of an ash tone than purple. I also love it because it’s way more conditioning than any other purple conditioner I’ve used. I can actually run a brush through my hair after using it.
I can’t even tell you how much I giggle when I get comments on “how nice” my skin is on Instagram after I post a photo using this foundation. Ladies, I have far from perfect skin. I’m just neurotic at finding foundations that mimic it. The PUR Cosmetics Bare It All foundation is a bit thick, but once blended out, lasts all day long on my oily skin and doesn’t break down. Review here.
TIP: Apply this with a buffing brush and spray both your face and the brush with a makeup mist (like MAC Fix+ or PIXI Hydrating Milky Mist) before application for an easier blend
This palette is me, compacted into powder. I love how quick and easy my makeup is when I use this palette because it’s so versatile. I can get a deep bronze all over the face, pop a bit of pinky coral on the cheeks and mix it all on the eyes for a monochromatic makeup look that is extremely flattering, timeless, yet on-trend. Tutorial here.
I own a lot of makeup. I don’t think that’s a surprise to any of you. So it’s rare that I continuously use the exact same product every single day for multiple weeks straight. However, Marc Jacobs Dew Drops are killing it. I LOVE applying it with a damp beauty sponge for a natural glow, or a small stippling brush (like this affordable ELF one) for an intensified look. Lasts ALL DAY LONG on my oily skin. Full review with swatches here.
I picked this up during the NYX grand opening in Houston right before I moved and I love the shade – it’s a Steffanie nude (that mid tone beige, peachy pink). If you’ve tried the ColourPop Ultra Satin lips (which I’m also obsessed with), these are a bit more matte and less creamy but they’re not dry and tight like most liquid lipsticks. What I appreciate the most is how gracefully these wear off the lips.
That wraps up this May 2017 beauty favorites! What have you been loving lately? Please let me know in the comments if any of my suggestions caught your eye or if you have any questions 🙂
