It seems as though the world is still into the no-makeup makeup look and the new First Aid Beauty Hello FAB collection is right on trend. The good-for-you, sensitive skin friendly beauty brand sold at Sephora (and now Ulta?) released a collection including makeup wipes, a facial mist, moisturizing primer, cushion corrector, face/eye/lip multi-sticks and a SPF-infused skin tint. If you’re into quick, on-the-go, apply in your car makeup, then this review is for you!
First Aid Beauty was started in 2009 by Lilli Gordon who was tired of skin care that wasn’t suitable for sensitive skin while also containing effective, soothing ingredients. Their mission is “…to help your skin look and feel its absolute best. We want to make every day a good skin day for you.”
Up until Hello FAB, First Aid Beauty was strictly a skin care line sold at firstaidbeauty.com, Sephora and now in limited supplies in Ultas. The Hello FAB line is not a nuts-to-bolts color collection, but rather a complexion-enhancing range. It provides improved skin appearance with a high dose of superfood ingredients. Hello FAB is free of fragrance, parabens, alcohol, lanolin, propylene glycol, phthalates, mineral oil, petrolatum, and sulfates.
I’ve been using the Hello FAB line over the last month+. I’m going to dig into each product to let you know how I rate them in terms of doing-what-they-say.
Hello FAB 3 in 1 Superfruit Color Correcting Cushion | $38
This product provides a skin brightening property along with a bit of hydration and smoothing. Universally flattering on all skin tones, the green/pink/purple cushion contains dragon fruit, kiwi and blueberry extracts to provide free radical protection, as well as, Niacinimide and Squalane for tone and texture.
This product did not really do much in terms of correcting my complexion, but it definitely brightened the appearance of my skin. It was cooling upon application and very lightweight.
Overall: 3/5 stars
Hello FAB Coconut Skin Smoothie Priming Moisturizer | $28
A coconut water infused moisturizer with a subtle iridescence to give a lit-from-within glow. The Coconut Skin Smoothie is oil-free and said to soften pores and imperfections. It includes zinc, copper and magnesium for healthy skin, as well as, quinoa protein to repair.
I can’t say this moisturizer did any work in terms of a traditional primer (no extended wear of foundation, etc), but it was a very nice moisturizer to wear under makeup. The slight light reflecting particles do flatter the skin and soften the look of imperfections. One con was that it has no SPF if you wanted to wear this on its own (but that’s what the skin tint is for I suppose…)
Overall: 4.5/5 stars
Hello FAB Vital Greens Face Mist | $18
This green juice facial mist is alcohol-free and formulated with a ton of superfood ingredients like Kale, Spinach, Cucumber and Spirulina to nourish and protect the skin from environmental triggers. It also contains aloe leaf juice for added hydration and soothing.
I didn’t really like this product. It was a little too hydrating on my combo/oily/dehydrated skin. This is better suited for those with dry, flaky skin in my opinion.
Overall: 2/5 stars
Hello FAB Caffeine Matcha Wake Up Wipes | $15 (25 wipes)
The wake up wipes say they can remove dirt, excess oil and makeup in one swipe. Perfect for use in the morning or post-workout, they contain caffeine to reduce puffiness, hyaluronic acid to moisturize, and vitamin C to brighten.
For me, this was the biggest dud from the line. The idea behind them was perfection but the wipes are simply NOT wet enough to cleanse the skin. Maybe best suited for a morning or post-gym wipe down *IF* you are not wearing a stitch of makeup. If you have even the littlest bit of mascara on, these wipes won’t cut it.
Overall: 1/5 stars
Hello FAB Mango Butter Multi Sticks | $20
A cream to powder stick that is suitable for use on the eyes, lips and cheeks. Currently in two shades (rosé and champagne), there is said to be a third shade – an iridescent lilac – released in October.
These are very pretty and very natural, but on my medium/tan skin tone, they do not pack enough of a punch against my complexion. I’d love a deeper shade than rosé (can we call her Sangria? First Aid Beauty can put resveratrol in it as a super ingredient from grapes!). They also don’t seem to 100% set down to a powder so expect a dewy, healthy-looking glow.
Overall 3.5/5 stars
wearing Skin Tint in Medium all over the face with Tan as a bronzer / Multi Stick in Champagne as a highlight / Multi Stick in Rose as a blush and Lip Balm
Hello FAB Triple Protection Skin Tint SPF30 | $34
The skin tints are a watery, breathable light/medium coverage fluid in four shades (fair, light, medium, tan). They contain a physical SPF 30 through zinc oxide and Goji Berry as a skin conditioning antioxidant to protect from environmental stressors.
I use shade Medium, so these do run a bit darker than a typical skin tint. They aren’t moisturizing, so don’t expect a tinted moisturizer, but they do provide decent coverage that’s buildable (perfect for every day) and dry down to a demi-matte/natural finish. These apply well with fingers or a brush, but using a beauty blender will soak up a lot of product. My one con for the skin tints are I wish they made just one deeper shade darker than Tan.
Overall: 4.5/5 stars
